Serbia secures its stay in the A division

Israel managed to make a comeback two times in the game but Serbia stayed head strong and secured this important win

The second game of the last day of Men`s 19 EHF EURO 2021 in Koprivnica, was of big importance because the winner of the match secured its stay in the A division.

Serbia had the better start of the game and quickly made a four-goal lead. Strong in the offense, and firm in the defense, it looked like Serbia had full control of the game. Serbian goalkeeper Luka Krivokapic, later named Player of the match, had a great performance. The halftime result was 12:16. Ten minutes into the second half, Isreal made a complete comeback and even took the lead in the 46th minute. In the intense last seconds of the match, Serbia took the win with the result 25:27.

Serbian head coach Djordje Teodorovic was proud of his team: “This truly our mentality,to give our best when its most needed. I had no doubt that my team is going to win this game. They were fighting like lions in the defense for 60 minutes as if they were playing for gold medal. There is a regret that we didn’t manage to go to the Main roud and be among the top 8. We weren’t constant at this tournament but this is expected from young players.”

Serbian goalkeeper Luka Krivokapic was the Player of the match: “We didn’t expect to fight for the stay in the A division at the end of the tournament, our goal was to go to the Main round but we failed. I’m glad I could end this tournament with good performance but the most important thing was that we won.”

Israel, disappointed with this result, made no comments. Their best player was Or Refael Levi.
